Sea kayaking can be enjoyed from the shore at the bottom of the drive.Valasay Self-catering Holidays provide 4-star accommodation in one of the most beautiful settings in the Western Isles, sometimes called the Outer Hebrides. This recently built semi-detached croft house overlooks the Kyles of Valasay, which is an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean. Grey Seal and many species of sea and shore birds can regularly be seen here. The quality of the water is superb, with Sea Trout and Salmon annually making their way inshore. An early rise may reward you with a sighting of the elusive Otter. Our four star grading from VisitScotland reflects the care and attention to detail we have invested in our property and means that you can come and relax, knowing that you are a valued guest, in surroundings that add to your relaxation and contentment.
At the bottom of the drive is a 100 year old footbridge across a Marine Special Area for Conservation. This designation has been given to protect rare varieties of marine invertebrates and seaweeds. The flow of water changes with the tides and offers a unique atmosphere to the house as you lie in your bed listening to the soothing sound of the water flowing. Our house is located in an excellent area for walking, with a way marked circular coastal walk leading from your door to the magnificent beach at Bosta where in 1996 archaeological excavations revealed the site of an Iron Age settlement. Elsewhere in Bernera, other walks you can enjoy are to a Norse Mill or to an iron age Broch at Loch Baravat. The island itself is very scenic and is the perfect location for a spot of bird watching, fishing or walking. For the more energetic, sea-kayaking can be enjoyed from the shore at the bottom of the drive, giving access over to Uig and the beautiful islands in between.
The large lounge affords views over the Kyles of Valasay and there is an open solid fuel fire for your added comfort. The spacious kitchen is fitted with an electric cooker, fridge, microwave oven and washer/dryer for your convenience. The first floor has 1 double bedroom, 1 twin bedroom and a bathroom with bath, wash basin, shower and WC. Oil fired central heating and coal are included in the rental charge. All bed linen is supplied free. Colour TV, video and payphone are also supplied.
Also available on site is Out and About Tours. Chris operates tours that visit all the major sites of historical and archaeological importance and will take you to many interesting and scenic areas of the islands that are off the beaten track.
