Dalbeattie is approached from Dumfries on the A711. As you near Dalbeattie you will pass a large estate of new bungalows. Shortly afterwards you will see Barhill Road on the left. Take this road and continue up the hill to the top where you will see a row of 10 cottages on the left. Take the lane which goes straight on past the cottages rather than following the main road round to the right, this lane will bring you down to Maidenholm Forge Mill.
