This newly renovated traditional stone built cottage is the ideal base for your stay on the island. It is situated in the quiet conservation village of Balfour, on the beautiful Shapinsay shoreline. The RSPB nature reserve is close by and both birds and seals can be watched in their natural habitat. The Mainland and Kirkwall are easily accessible by local ferry.
Everything you need for your island stay is a stones throw away, with a well stocked local shop just across the road providing fresh fruit, veg, bread and milk. Smithy restaurant is two minutes walk away, and prides itself on its fresh seafood and local fair and is well worth a visit. Shapinsay is a wonderful place for walkers, nature lovers, artists and those who just want to relax in peacefull and outstandingly beautiful surroundings.

Directions
Your arrival airport is Kirkwall. From here you are just a few minutes from MV Shapinsay ferry terminal by taxi. I would advise pre-booking your taxi. There is also an airport shuttle bus which takes you into Kirkwall dropping you near to the Shapinsay ferry by request.
