Outstanding croft house, open plan living area, great views of the dramatic countryside

Taigh na h-aibhne is built to a high specification and award winning design with a glazed wall and vaulted ceiling in the living area. The low-e reflective glass gives privacy, while allowing access to the dramatic views. Maple flooring is used throughout, apart from Caithness slate in the entrance hall and the hearth around the wood-burning stove, which compliments the oil fired central heating. The adjustable lighting sets the mood for your relaxation and for your entertainment we provide.

My family has occupied the Croft for around 200 years. Donald Ferguson (my father) inherited the house as a young boy when his father was killed in the First World War. The corrugated iron house was built after the war and was inhabited until 1997 by my aunt Morag Buchanan who was the last surviving member of the previous generation. I inherited the croft in 1999 and had to demolish the original black house along with the byre and the corrugated iron house as they were beyond repair. I decided to build a new Croft house, one that would evoke the principles of the original black house design that people used on Skye for generations but with a contemporary twist for modern and comfortable living.
