At the top of the castle is the Tapestry Room with glorious views of the surrounding countryside.A warm welcome awaits at Ethie Castle, an ancient sandstone fortress dating from the fourteenth century and reputed to be Scotland's second oldest permanently inhabited castle. The castle was bought in 1665 by the Carnegie family, who later became the Earls of Northesk. It remained with them until 1928. In recent years the castle has been carefully restored and maintained to form a magnificent home of great character and historic importance.
The castle is conveniently located on the north east coast, north of Dundee, Carnoustie and Arbroath. We are within easy driving distance of the beautiful Angus Glens, where you can see eagles, buzzards, deer and some of the most striking scenery in Scotland. Nearby is the Victorian Trail; from Fettercairn to Balmoral over heather clad hills by way of picturesque villages where Queen Victoria and her beloved husband were a popular well known couple.
Each bedroom is unique and has a homely feel. One room has a superking bed, private bathroom and sitting room. Another is a cozy room with a charming art deco bathrom and we also have a four poster bedroom with luxury en-suite bath and shower room.
Relax in front of a roaring log fire on the cooler evenings in one of our sitting rooms. The barrel vaulted Cardinal's Room has a secret stairwell. The Georgian Drawing Room is elegant and hung with fine art and at the top of the castle, with magnificent views of the surrounding countryside, is the Tapestry Room.
