Stable Cottage is a 250 year old traditional Galloway building that was originally part of the stable block for the private Cairnsmore Estate. This traditional Galloway cottage is on a private estate bordering the Cairnsmore of Fleet National Nature Reserve & on the edge of the Galloway Forest Park. The enclosed garden is south-facing and a wonderful sun-trap where the red squirrels and greater spotted woodpeckers are frequent visitors.

The area offers varied interests, both for the outdoor & wildlife enthusiasts and those who enjoy exploring the surrounding towns and villages. These include Wigtown, Scotland's Book Town, the Food Town of Castle Douglas and the Artist's town of Kirkcudbright. A range of local information can be found at the cottage. The Cairnsmore estate is the ancestral home of the Stewart family and was once the shooting estate of the Dukes of Bedford. Cairnsmore of Fleet is a mountain and biosphere reserve near the estate, offering excellent climbing and walking
