Cattle grazing on the beach in front of the houseSamhchair (Gaelic for tranquility) is a newly built bungalow overlooking the safe, sandy beach of beautiful Kilnaughton Bay, some two miles from Port Ellen on the Isle of Islay. Visitors can enjoy spectacular panoramic views to Port Ellen, the Mull of Kintyre and Antrim while observing the local wildlife. Golden eagles, buzzards, herons, feral goats, highland cattle, otters, seals and dolphins may all be spotted from the terrace overlooking the sea.
The Isle of Islay enjoys a temperate climate, thanks to the Gulf Stream and is famous for its abundant wildlife, beautiful scenery and whisy distilleries. There are eight working distilleries on the island, some of which offer guided tours with a free dram. There are a wide range of interesting archaelogical and historical sites on the island, including the standing stones at Ballinaby, the stone circle at Coultoon and the iron age fort at Dun Nosebridge. Islay is also a haven for birdwatchers, and has a reputation for attracting unusual birds.
Samhchair has one twin and one double bedroom, each equipped with en-suite facilities, satellite television, free wireless internet connection, tea and coffee making facilities, hair dryer and iron.
Samhchair is a non-smoking house and, unfortunately, does not have facilities for pets.
