Iona Cottage is a delightful self catering cottage situated on the green and fertile island of Shapinsay. Offering comfortable and spacious accommodation for up to 6 people, this detached property enjoys delightful views over Elwick Bay. Just a few minutes walk from the village centre, pier and Balfour Castle, this cottage makes a fantastic base from which to explore this beautiful island.

Shapinsay is easily connected with the mainland via the regular ferry from Kirkwall. As you sail out of the shelter of Kirkwall Bay, old gun emplacements can be seen along the Point of Carness while on the left lies Thieves Holm. Tradition has it that this little isle was home to banished thieves and witches but now it is the haunt of Cormorants, Kittiwakes and seals. Orkney offers a rich variety of activities, between the sea, land, lochs, hills, and beaches there's not much Orkney cannot offer someone looking for a day of action -- not forgetting the stunning surroundings to take in at the same time. You are never far from the coast to enjoy water sports such as surfing, sailing, windsurfing, kite surfing, diving and kayaking, while inland you can play a round of golf, or try a spot of fishing on one of Orkney's lochs or even explore the islands on foot or by bike.
