Hostels Bunkhouse Accommodation, Team Building Activity Centres in Scotland

There's no lack of choice for group accommodation in Scotland. It's not just restricted to the Highlands - hostels and bunkhouses are found all over the country and even in the cities. The Shetland Islands run their own bunkhouses called camping bods which are usually in historic buildings that are all part and parcel of Shetland history and culture. You can even find group accommodation in several of the Shetland Stevenson's lighthouses - a truly unique experience!

Hostel and bunkhouse accommodation is ever increasing in Scotland especially as the demand for activity holidays develops in the more remote areas of the country. Being such a home to adventure and activity holidays it's no surprise to find a plethora of outdoor activity centres. These concetrated around Aviemore and the Cairngorms, the Highlands around Fort William, Ben Nevis and Glencoe and Loch Ness. In fact you'll often find hostels and activity centres around the most famous hillwalks or the long distance walking routes that thread through the country.

Scotland Cheap Hostels, Backpackers, Scottish Youth Hostels

The choice of cheap hostel accommodation in Scotland leaves you with plenty of options. There's a choice ranging from Youth Hostels to cheap self catering bunkhouses within top outdoor activity locations like Glencoe, Ben Nevis, Fort William and surfing areas on the Western Isles and north coast of Scotland. The Shetland Islands Amenity Trust run a camping bod scheme where bunkhouse accommodation is available in historic buildings on the islands including lighthouses and crofts. Cheap Scotland hostels make the perfect budget holiday accommodation base, not just for young groups and stag and hen weekends, but for families too. Youth hostels often offer family rooms and several independant hostel organisation offer accommodation for all age groups.

If you're looking for a cheap city base in Glasgow, Edinburgh or Inverness then MacBackpackers have hostels in the heart of all these cities. These and other hostel organisation have bases in a good variety of Scottish towns as well as the more remote countryside. The best choice for hostels are the Highlands of Scotland particularly around Loch Ness, Fort William and Glencoe and Aviemore and the Cairngorms.

Scotland Outdoor Activity Centres & Bothies Scottish Highlands Group Accommodation

Scotland is the centre for outdoor activities and adventure holidays, with a range of sports and watersports available. Activity holiday centres abound, particularly around the Highlands, Cairngorms, Speyside and the west coast and Western Isles for sea kayaking and surfing. The Shetland Islands and the Orkneys are also well served with hostels handy for diving, walking and cycling holidays.

The Scottish Tourist Board inspects Scottish hostels (look for the logo) and the Independent Backpackers Hostels of Scotland is an affiliation scheme which also has a programme of inspection. Hostels affiliated to this scheme are listed in their "Blue Guide". Scottish Activity Holiday centres often have a statutory licence from the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA). Alternatively, the Activity Centre will have been approved by a recognised National Governing Body of Sport or Trade (for example the British Surfing Association/BSA).

You've every possible activity centre you can think of here in Scotland, from climbing and walking centres in the Highlands and Cairngorms, sea kayaking on the west coast and canoeing in the Speyside area, and surfing school centres in the Western Isles and north and east cost of Scotland. Mountain biking is popular in Lochaber at the World Championship Downhill Course near Fort William, and in a whole host of purpose built tracks in forestry land all over Scotland. Multi-activity centres combine multi activities such as rock climbing, scrambling, hillwalking caving abseiling and even ice climbing at Kinlochleven. For canoeing family holidays the River Spey couldn't be better, and a number of activity centres can be found around Aviemore.
