Edinburgh has a groundbreaking nightclub scene, complemented by a thriving chic gay scene around the Broughton Street/Leith Walk area of Edinburgh on the eastern side of New Town.

Glasgow's fab gay scene is a friendly one, centered around the east quarter of the city, in Merchant City and surrounds. Choice is superb for gay nightclubs, gay saunas, gay clubs and gay bars - there's a Clone Zone shop here too.

Edinburgh - What's on Gay Scene

Edinburgh has a superb and growing gay scene around the Broughton Street, Leith Walk area of the city nicknamed the Pink Triangle. Its roots date back to the 1970s when the first gay and lesbian centre appeared in the area. The area offers a choice range of gay cafes, gay bars, an exclusively gay club - CC Blooms and a couple of gay saunas. Gay nights run in clubs like the Liquidroom (Taste on Sundays).

Edinburgh's definitive gay gathering spot in the heart of Edinburgh's Broughton Gay Scene iconically named 'Pink Triangle'. Great vegetarian here! Broughton Street and the Broughton area to the north of Edinburgh city centre is the centre for Edinburgh's gay scene, and if accommodation, bars, cafes and restaurants aren't gay owned, they'll all be gay friendly.

Glasgow Nightlife & Gay Scene Glasgow

It's a good one, Glasgow's gay scene revolves around Merchant City and surrounds and is known for its friendly and welcoming vibe. Look especially for gay bars, clubs, saunas and stores around Virginia Street (Delmonica's), Dixon Street (Spa 19, GLC Cafe Bar) and checkout the gay friendly Arches on Midland Street. Gay Scotland's weblink right offers a superb gay listings for Glasgow, including two saunas and Clone zone - a choice gay store with a range of clothing, toys, fits and magazines, open til 7pm most nights.

Scottish Highlands Gay Nightlife Inverness

The gay scene for the Highlands and Islands has been gathering more momentum over recent years and particularly since Inverness hosted their own Gay Pride Festival in 2000.

Inverness is the base for the Highland Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Forum and Social Group. Check their website, link right, for up-to-date details on events and socials - they're always keen to welcome visitors to the area. You can also find out about other things going on in Inverness and the Highlands such as Gay Film Festivals and the Highland Pride Ball.

There are gay-friendly bars in the city although most would probably like to think they're welcoming to all without having to badge them as gay-friendly.

Try the Station Hotel next to the railway station, Bar Pivo on Academy Street, 21 degrees north and Nico's Bar/Bistro on Ness Bank. Cactus Jack's has music and a dancefloor on King Street.
