Aberfeldy Information & Outdoor Activity Holidays

"Now Simmer blinks on flowery braes, And o'er the crystal steamlets plays; Come let us spend the lightsome days In the birks of Aberfeldy" (Robert Burns, The Birks of Aberfeldy). The sublime Falls of Moness at Aberfeldy were made famous by Burns' poem. The Birks of Aberfeldy (Birks are Scots for birch trees) circular walk taking in the Moness gorge is popular and offers fine views too over Strathtay. The walk is only around 1.5 miles and you can hook into it off the main street in Aberfledy or from the A826 car park. (visit the Aberfeldy Tourist Information Centre for more details).

As famous as the Aberfledy Birks is Wade's Bridge running across the River Tay at Aberfeldy. This was the first bridge to be built across the Tay by the English General Wade in 1733. All part of the process of improving access and subjugating the Highlanders.

Fishing is on the menu near Aberfeldy, particularly for Brown Trout at Glen Lyon and Loch Tay. (see the Angling Tayside weblink right for details).
