With its nickname the berry capital of Scotland , Blairgowrie has a reputation for fine food stretching back years. Fruits are grown widely in the area in the many soft fruit farms (especially raspberries), and seasonal fruit pickers arrive in droves in season. This bustling Perthshire town offers a host of restaurants, pubs and shops, plus easy access north to Glenshee, Braemar, the Cairngorms and skiing in-season, south to Perth, north towards Pitlochry and the Highlands and within easy reach of the Angus Glens.
Like a mini Perth, but much more rural Blairgowrie is an old market town. The Loch of Lowes Visitor Centre & Wildlife Reserve is situated near the town and a number of Scottish Castles including Glamis, Blair Calste and Scone Palace. This part of Scotland is renowned for its Highland Games, and Blairgowrie & Rattray are no exception, holding their Highland Games at the beginning of September annually (weblink right).

Dunkeld is a gem of a location, long popular with Glaswegians and Edinburgh locals who push up here at weekends for the atmospheric pubs, local outdoor activities and delightful specialist shopping in the town. Dunkeld was actually proclaimed the first ecclesiastical capital of Scotland by first king Kenneth MacAlpin. Hence, the site of the Dunkeld Cathedral remains is particularly important within Scottish history.
Less busy than Pitlochry, Dunkeld has a chic bohemian edge, with its ancient cathedral ruins and attractive setting alongside the Tay. Take the Riverside path for a stroll to view Thomas Telford's Dunkeld Bridge.
The Dunkeld Park Activity Centre (weblink right) offers a choice of outdoor activities in the heart of Perthshire including shooting, driving, archery and fishing. Most date from around 1689, the time of the Battle of Dunkeld. Not to be missed near Dunkeld is the Loch of the Lowes Visitor Centre & Wildlife Reserve. Run by the Scottish Wildlife Trust, you can expect to see magnificent ospreys, red squirrels and spot otters swimming in the stunning tree-lined Loch here in the heart of Highland Perthshire.
The Scottish Wildlife Trust visitor centres cater particularly well for children (find other trust centres at the Falls of Clyde in Lanarkshire and the Montrose Basin on the Angus coast). Interactive wildlife quizzes are available here at the Loch of the Lowes visitor centre.
The observation hide offers the perfect spot from which to view Osprey - catch one fishing on the loch if you're lucky.
