Balloch Loch Lomond Scotland Accommodation Boat Trips Shopping

Balloch has become the focal point for entering Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. At the southwestern corner of the loch it's a good place to take a cruise up the loch, find out what to do at the Tourist Information or stock up at the Loch Lomond Shores shopping complex.

Balloch is a small town with all the usual facilities. There is also a concentration of hotel, B&B accommodation, pubs and restaurants.

Balloch is on the southwestern edge of Loch Lomond and is only a forty minute train ride from Glasgow. It's a focal centre for Loch Lomond and the National Park that eases you from city life to more rural life which is made easier by the proivision of the Loch Lomond Shore shopping complex which also houses the swish National Park Gateway Visitor Centre and exhibition where you can find out all about the park as well as activities around the Loch Lomond and the National Park. There is a good choice of hotels, B&B accommodation with a hostel and campsite on the edges of town. There are also a variety of pubs, restaurants and take aways in Balloch.

Boat Trips Loch Lomond Cruises

Being at the mouth of Loch Lomond where it enters the River Leven Balloch is the main place from which to take a boat trip or hire a boast to explore Loch Lomond.

You can visit The Maid of the Loch which is moored at the pier in Balloch as she is being restored. There is a visitor exhibition and cafe and shop on board. She is the last paddle steamer to be built in Britain and was built in 1953 specifically for service on Loch Lomond as a pleasure cruiser. Loch Lomond Shores Shopping

Loch Lomond Shores is a modern complex just outside Balloch off the A82. It is a modern development that is home to shops, cafes, restaurants, the Loch Lomond National Park Gateway Centre, Sealife Aquarium, children's fun park, Loch Lomond trains and kayak and pedalo hire. Events are also held here like monthly farmers markets and continental markets. Check their website for up-to-date events and more information on the outlets at the complex, link right.

There is a fun park on the Loch Shores Complex and the Loch Lomond Shore Express that leaves from outside the Sealife Aquarium and takes you on a short lochside trip.
