Edinburgh's more recent attractions such as the Loch Ness Experience and Our Dynamic Earth are particularly popular with visitors. Old favourites too still rank up there with the best including Scotland's second most visited attraction (after Edinburgh Castle) - Edinburgh Zoo. This enormous zoo is world renowned for its attention to conservation and environmental education. With a choice of both modern, historic and family oriented tourist attractions, Edinburgh has something to please for all and makes for a particularly good family holiday city break!
A visit to Edinburgh's Royal Botanic Garden is not to be missed, with its choice of gardens including tropical plants and native Scottish plants. Also, a firm favourite still is the Greyfriars Bobby monument in the city centre next to Greyfriars Kirk graveyard. The story of this loyal Edinburgh Skye terrior still pulls at the ol' heart strings.

Greyfriars Bobby Statue Edinburgh
Back in Edinburgh City Centre, the statue of Greyfriars Bobby, Edinburgh's famous Skye terrior dog, sits on Candlemakers Row in Edinburgh and Greyfriars Bobby's grave is in Greyfriars Kirkyard alongside. Bobby is buried close to his master John Gray's grave also in Greyfriars Kirkyard.
The Greyfriars Bobby story continues to tug at the heartstrings, and the statue of this famous Skye Terrior is a popular attraction in Edinburgh, and a favourite with children. The story of Greyfriars Bobby is a touching one. Afteer the death of his master John Gray in 1858, Bobby stood watch on the grave for 14 years until his own death in 1872, only leaving it to receive food from William Ramsey the local Coffee House owner.
The statue monument of Greyfriars Bobby you see today isn't the original, which is housed in the Edinburgh Museum along with his feeding bowl. For more information on Greyfriars Bobby see the website right, and visit the online shop for Greyfriars Bobby arts, crafts, the Greyfriars Bobby magazine and Tartan dog collars of course! A number of children's books have been written about the story of Greyfriars Bobby, for example those by Eleanor Atkinson. You can buy these via the online shop or in various outlets in Edinburgh.
