Edinburgh ranks as one of the UK's best cities for atmospheric pubs. Look to Edinburgh pubs in the Old Town area of the city and there's usually a haunted Edinburgh story or history attached. Edinburgh has been a centre for brewing for many a century, hence its reputation for fine beers. The Caledonian Brewery (weblink right) still operates, albeit under the umbrella of Scottish & Newcastle. The Scotch Whisky Heritage Centre on Castlehill/Royal Mile guides you through the whisky making process with restaurant serving traditional Scottish food and whiskies on-site. Top Edinburgh pub districts include the huge choice on the Royal Mile, with many embellishing history and stories knocking about here to pull in the punters - all good fun. George Street is Edinburgh's real hub for pubs and bars, many of which are now chic and modern.
For a bit more character head to the Broughton area, given an edge by the gay scene in the area. Plenty of choice lively pubs and bars around here. In New Town, Stockbridge is also renowned for its good choice of Edinburgh pubs.

Edinburgh Restaurants
Eating out in Edinburgh choice couldn't be better, with Edinburgh restaurants booming in recent years. Checkout Ambeer at the Scotch Whisky Heritage Centre for a light Scottish menu or vegetarian/vegan favourite Black Bo's on Blackfriars Street. Move to the chic New Town and West End of Edinburgh to discover a fine selection of restaurants alongside a choice of bars and clubs. For well known restaurant names look to Edinburgh New Town's George Street and Princes Street. West of Edinburgh Castle in Edinburgh's theatre district around Lothian Road there's a good choice of bustling eating places including Izzi's Chinese Restaurant Edinburgh (weblink right). Or head north to the trendy Broughton Street area, the hub of Edinburgh's gay scene, for more choice of bistro cafes, diners, Thai and Italian restaurants. Valvona & Crolla Italian deli and cafe is particularly renowned and situated on Leith Walk's Elm Row (weblink right).

Edinburgh's definitive gay gathering spot in the heart of Edinburgh's Broughton Gay Scene iconically named 'Pink Triangle'. Great vegetarian here! Broughton Street and the Broughton area to the north of Edinburgh city centre is the centre for Edinburgh's gay scene, and if accommodation, bars, cafes and restaurants aren't gay owned, they'll all be gay friendly.
