Edinburgh Airport, Edinburgh Airport Hotels, Edinburgh Airport Parking
With Edinburgh being such a popular UK City Break destination, Edinburgh Airport is served by numerous airlines, with flights to a choice of destinations. Connector flights from all the London Airports fly to Edinburgh (for longhaul change fly on from London Heathrow or London Gatwick).
Destinations reached direct from Edinburgh Airport include Barcelona, Belfast City, Belfast International, Birmingham, Dublin, Manchester, Stornaway and other European cities including Madrid and Munich. Holiday destinations are also well served, and include Faro on Portugal's Algarve, Alicante, Malaga, and Tenerife. Delta Airlines do offer one longhaul flight from the USA (Atlanta) direct to Edinburgh Airport.
Although relatively small for a UK airport, facilities are extensive and particularly good for children, including ample restaurants, bars, shops, baby changing facilites (x4), play areas and an excellent choice of Edinburgh Airport parking. Edinburgh Airport Hotels include big chain hotels on-site such as Quality and the Edinburgh Airport Hilton. Choosing an Edinburgh Hotel or B&B near the airport is a superb idea, as easy access into Edinburgh City Centre is served by the regular Airlink 100 Edinburgh shuttle bus, which zips into Edinburgh from the Airport in under 30 minutes. These leave around every 10 minutes (see Edinburgh Shuttle weblink right for details).If you've arrived in Edinburgh from an international destination, then Edinburgh Airport Car hire couldn't be easier. Glasgow International Airport (City)
Glasgow International Airport, situated just 8 miles to the Southwest of Glasgow City Centre, is the busiest of Scotland's three big international airports. By 2004 it was handling over one million passengers (the first of Scotland's Airports to do so). As well as cheap flights from Glasgow to well known holiday destinations such as Majorca, the Algarve and Alicante/Malaga/Spanish Costas, flights head direct from Glasgow to top city breaks such as Barcelona and Amsterdam, all London Airports, Belfast and Dublin. Long Haul flights depart from Glasgow International Airport too, to destinations such as Canada and North American locations such as Las Vegas and Boston.
The airport is well served by public transport. Paisley's Gilmour Street Railway Station is just 1 mile for Glasgow Airport's terminal building, and regular trains (at last count 8 per hour) run from here into Glasgow Central Station. Likewise, shuttle buses depart regularly into Glasgow from outside the terminal building. A choice of luxury Glasgow Airport hotels and budget B&B accommodation is located in the Glasgow West area in and around the Airport. Long Term Parking at Glasgow Airport is on the outskirts of the Airport complex at Glasgow NCP (get quotes via the Glasgow Airport Parking weblink right). It's cheaper to pre-book online. If you're staying for just a few hours at Glasgow Airport choose the Short Stay parking situated right next to Glasgow Airport's terminal building. As with the Long Stay Car Park, this one's fully secure with CCTV and Security patrol. It's also won a Secured Car Park Award. Prices start to go up dramatically after a 4 to 6 hour stay.
Prestwick Glasgow Airport (Ayr, Ayrshire)
With cheap flights from Glasgow Prestwick Airport to 8 holiday destinations and a total of 27 scheduled destinations across Europe, Prestwick Airport offers huge flight choice, cheap on-site parking and excellent facilities with its own station and superb public transport links to both Edinburgh and Glasgow city centres. Ryan Air operate out of Glasgow Prestwick Airport to a number of European destinations including Dublin, Barcelona, Paris and Rome. Although Glasgow Prestwick Airport is in Ayrshire, it's just 32 miles from Glasgow City Centre. This is combined with a 50 percent discount on all rail travel from Prestwick Airport's own station to anywhere else in Scotland. Now that means cheap holidays from Prestwick are really on the menu. Stay in Ayrshire and explore the Robert Burns Trail around Alloway to the south of Ayr, then push up from Prestwick for city breaks in either Glasgow, Edinburgh or indeed both! Accommodation choice is excellent around Prestwick Airport and indeed in Ayr, Troon and Prestwick (check the listings here on iknow Scotland).Five of the big name car hire companies operate from Glasgow Prestwick Airport including Hertz, Avis, Europcar, National, Sixt and Alamo. This makes budget car rental from Prestwick Airport easy. The Car Hire desks are all situated in the main arrivals hall to greet you when you land.
Early morning transfers from both Edinburgh and Glasgow are well served by both bus and rail. (see the 'Getting to the Airport' secttion on Prestwick Airport's weblink right). Buses depart early from both Edinburgh Waverley Station and Glasgow Buchanan Bus station to meet early morning flights. Likewise evening services run late. Pre-book on-line via the airport's website to ensure your place is reserved. Fast motorway road links into Glasgow Prestwick Airport are also excellent, with the short M77 road link to Glasgow being a particularly good link at only a 32 mile drive!.
Shopping choice within Prestwick Airport includes the usual good choice of tax free goods, plus also a fine selection of Scottish goods outlets and a choice of cafes, bars and restaurants. Glasgow Prestwick Airport Parking is good, with a number of options available and a new Economy Long Stay Car Park 7 now available.
