Glasgow International Airport, situated just 8 miles to the Southwest of Glasgow City Centre, is the busiest of Scotland's three big international airports. By 2004 it was handling over one million passengers (the first of Scotland's Airports to do so). Glasgow International Airport is well served by public transport. Paisley's Gilmour Street Railway Station is just 1 mile for Glasgow Airport's terminal building, and regular trains (at last count 8 per hour) run from here into Glasgow Central Station. Likewise, shuttle buses depart regularly into Glasgow from outside the terminal building. On arrival at the car rental desk you'll need your Visa, driving licence and pre-booking form to hand. (both parts of the driving licence for UK drivers, and passports/ID cards usually for those visitors from outside the UK). Check your car rental thoroughly at the pick-up point and make sure any minor damage like scratches are recorded before you drive off.

Driving in the United Kingdom is on the Left hand side and speed limits in the UK are by MPH (Miles per Hour). The following speed limits apply generally - Motorways 70mph, Urban roads 60mph, duel carriageways 70mph, residential/built up areas 30/40 mph. Watch for speedlimits, and when entering the city centres of both Glasgow and Edinburgh you'll notice a 50mph fixed speed limit (if only all cities would do the same!). This slower pace is actually quite good news for new visitors unfamiliar with the roads. Road networks from Glasgow Airport are superb. The Airport sits just off the M8 motorway (Junction 28). If you're heading into Glasgow City Centre the M8 joints the M80, from which various exit junctions span out to different parts of the city. (It's well worth pre-planning and knowing your exit junction prior to your visit).

Long Term Parking at Glasgow Airport is on the outskirts of the Airport complex at Glasgow NCP (get quotes via the Glasgow Airport Parking weblink right). It's cheaper to pre-book online. If you drive up and pay prices are slightly more expensive. Glasgow NCP Flightpath car park is fully secure, with CCTV and regular security patrol.

If you're staying for just a few hours at Glasgow Airport choose the Short Stay parking situated right next to Glasgow Airport's terminal building. As with the Long Stay Car Park, this one's fully secure with CCTV and Security patrol. It's also won a Secured Car Park Award. Prices start to go up dramatically after a 4 to 6 hour stay. If you are planning to leave your car at Glasgow Airport for more than 4 hours, it's cheaper to use the Long stay Glasgow NCP Flightpath car park.
