Galashiels town centre offers a choice of good restaurants (particularly chinese), with good shopping facilities and easy access to the Southern Uplands Way which passes right through Galashiels. Likewise cyclists can join the Tweed Cycle Way (weblink right) from Galashiels.
Galashiels makes a good budget Scottish Borders base too, with a number of friendly B&Bs in and around the town. Lindean Mill Glass, Galashiels, TD1 3PE. Tel. 01750 20173. Workshop and gallery open to the public from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm (weekends by appointment). Lindean is signposted on the A7 and sits 2 miles north of Selkirk.
