Space is limited so book ferry journeys aheadFerries to the Isle of Arran run from Ardrossan on the Ayrshire coast and from Claonaig on the east coast of the Kintyre Peninsula.
There are very regular sailings during the summer making it easy to enjoy Arran as a day trip or longer.
Caladonian MacBryane Ferries run services from Claonaig on the east coast of Kintyre to Lochranza on the north side of the Isle of Arran. There are around nine services every day including Sundays.
The crossings take half an hour and space is limited as it's a small ferry.
Hopping over to Arran and main town Brodick from Ardrossan couldn't be easier via the frequent ferry service by Caledonian MacBrayne (see website right. Caledonian are the main ferry company for Hebridean and Clyde Ferries).
Around 9 ferries per day depart from Ardrossan to Brodick, and likewise from Brodick to Ardrossan in the peak summer season. The ferry trip takes around 55 minutes, making day trips more than feasible. Saver 5 day returns won't break the bank either for a car and family of 4, with motorhomes not that much more expensive than cars.

If you're planning a few ferry journeys it might be worth investing in one of the Island Hopscotch or Island Rover tickets. These are valid for several journeys between islands and can be more cost effective than buying the tickets for each journey separately. Again, check the CalMac website for up-to-date prices and offers.
