Tobermory Tourist Information Isle of Mull Argyll Scotland

Tobermory is the picturesque harbour front town on the Isle of Mull. It's a big draw on the island with the main concentration of holiday accommodation, shops, restaurants and things to do.

There's plenty to see and do for all the family whether it's golf and whisky for dad, a petting zoo for the kids and a relaxing coffee for mum in the arts centre or chocolate factory!

Tobermory lies on the north west coast of the Isle of Mull. It is famed for its picturesque fishing port with brightly painted buildings along the harbour backed by a steep wooded hill. Something more and more fishing ports are adopting to spruce them up.

Tobermory has the bulk of Mull's attractions and acommodation. There is a good choice of hotel, B&B and guest house accommodation. However, being the most popular destination on the island holiday accommodation does tend to book up in high season so book early for your choice of places to stay.

Sightseeing Tobermory

The volunteer-run Tobermory Museum is choc full of items related to the history of the town and island. Themes include working implements used by islanders in the past, traditional blackhouse life, the wreck of a Spanish galleon that is sunk in Tobermory harbour and items relating to World War II when Mull was an important naval harbour. There is a good variety of shops along the harbour including Mull Pottery and the Mull Silver Company. If you don't mind the climb up the hill you'll not only be spoilt with fantastic views over the bay but you'll find An Tobar - the island's main arts centre. Housed in a Victorian school exhibitions and a series of events including ceilidhs are held here from March to December. Welcome in wet weather is the cafe with comfy sofas and an open fire. The Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust have an office in Tobermory. Their aim to to promote the conservation of Scotland's whales, dolphins, and porpoises and the Hebridean marine environment through education, research and community work. You can find out more information on how to identify sea mammals and what's recently been seen in the area from the office on Main Street. Just outside Tobermory is the Sgriob-ruadh Farm - Tobermory's Children's Farm. Here the kids can get to bottle feed lambs, cuddle rabbits, have a go at holding a ferret and there are swings and rides for them too. Tobermory Distillery

Tobermory has its own distillery, Ledaig Distillery, that was founded in 1798. It most recently reopened in 1990 and produces Tobermory Malt Scotch Whisky, both single malt and blended. The single malts have also been bottled under the Ledaig label.

You can now visit the distillery to see how it is made. You need to book in advance.

Tobermory Golf Course

Tobermory has a nine hole golf course overlooking the Sound of Mull. It is a heathland course originally founded in 1896. It is reputed to be a challenging course that has never actually played to par!

Visitors are welcome to play the course and green fees can be paid at Brown's Shop, Tobermory, the Western Isles Hotel, and Fairways Lodge.
