Portree is the main town on the Isle of Skye. It is situated in the centre of the island and is a good stopping off point if you're going on to explore the north of Skye.

Portree Tourist Attractions
Portree is the hub of the island with the main concentration of holiday accommodation, hotels, guest houses and bed B&Bs, restaurants, cafes and shops. It's an attractive town set around the harbour with its Thomas Telford pier and overlooked by The Lump - a steep peninsula that was once the site of public hangings! Portree was where poverty-stricken islanders left for North America in the 1700s. It was later developed as a fishing port which stemmed the exodus from the island.
The town centre leads off from Somerled Square in the centre where markets are often held. There is also a war memorial in the square. On Bank Street is The Royal Hotel where Bonnie Prince Charlie left Flora MacDonald in 1746 who had whisked him away from the Highlands to safety on Skye. On Struan Road west of the town centre is the An Tuireann Arts Centre which houses contemporary art exhibitions, organises community workshops and projects. It also has a has a pleasant cafe serving up local, organic and fair trade produce. It also has a bookshop and wireless internet access available. On the outskirts of Portree on the Sligachan road is the Aros Centre a popular stop for coach parties. It has a huge gift shop and small sea eagle exhibition where you can see the live feed from sea eagle's nests on the island. There is also a cinema, cafe, bar and exhibition space and it is one of the main centres on the Isle of Skye that hosts live music. Dolphin Watching Wildlife Boat Trips Portree Harbour
MV Stardust run 1-2 hour long boat trips from Portree Harbour. Frequent sightings include seals, porpoises, sea-eagles, dolphins and whales. It's also a good way to see some of the spectacular Skye scenery. MV Stardust also run trips over to the Isle of Raasay where you can be dropped off for the day to walk the island, picnic and see if you can spot more land based wildlife.
